Random Post 1: Fun Addictions That Can Be Healthy
The word "addiction" usually carries some heavy, negative connotation that most people think is related to drugs, alcohol, or other festivities that can deter a person's entire livelihood for the worse. Today, I would like a share a plethora of "addictions" that can be healthy, as long as it is done in moderation. Keep in mind that too much or too less of anything can be dangerous (ex: drinking too much water leads to water intoxication, drinking too much alcohol leads to temporary memory loss and teleportation powers, eating too less leads to anorexia, too many words in parentheses leads to a bad blog). My rule of thumb is to maintain balance in your "addictions", and with balance, comes consistency and power. Here are some of my top 2 personal favorite addictions:
Caffeine Addiction:
Caffeine addiction is one of the most common forms of dependency worldwide, often disguised by its widespread social acceptance. Found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, and sodas, caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, providing increased alertness and temporary energy boosts. As caffeine enjoyer, I drink the patented "Iced Americano" which is very popular for low calories and sugar, to have a dose of energy, but I only do drink it in moderation. Sometimes, I use caffeine as a motivation reward as well, especially when I do morning workouts and take my special motivation powder (pre-workout, not anything illegal). Personally, drinking the blessed God's nectar of the classic cup of Joe is enjoyable for me, but it might not be for everyone, especially those who are sensitive to caffeine.
Addiction to Playing NBA 2K:
If you know NBA, you would know NBA 2k. As a player of all Madden, FIFA, and other popular sports titles, NBA 2K is my go-to game. I know what you're probably thinking, "Dawg, you are 22 years old. LinkedIn and Indeed is free and probably causes less white hairs and stress." While this statement is factually correct, I want to clarify that I only play NBA 2k when I am with the boys. NBA 2k is a very fun game, despite it not being accurate at times (giving USC Alumni Bronny James a 68 overall rating, he should be 99), it is a great game to play with friends, especially on a boring Tuesday night (recency bias, I just played it before writing this). Regardless, those are two of my favorite "addictions" if you will, and I make sure to balance those hobbies to make it healthy for me. Hopefully, you also narrow down your healthy addictions, and make sure that your hobbies are balanced and done in moderation.
Wow Richard. This is extremely "G"! As a fellow caffeine addict with a love for the coveted Iced Americano I heavily resonated with your post. I also agree that your addiction to NBA 2k is important as I've been taking a few matches off you. I recommend you continue to play and improve your skill. Good luck Richard!
ReplyDeleteHi Richard, thank you for sharing your take on how some addictions can be beneficial! As someone who also enjoys caffeine and basketball, I understand why these two choices would be your favorite to indulge in. Although I cannot relate to your love for iced americanos, I do love a good cup of blueberry matcha or an iced vanilla latte. You should try if you haven't had the chance to before!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Richard! I really liked your take on how certain habits, when done in moderation, can be fun and even beneficial. It’s refreshing to see a positive spin on ‘addictions’ and how they can be a source of motivation rather than just a bad habit
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love the humorous yet insightful take on balancing “addictions” in a healthy way. Your caffeine and NBA 2K examples are super relatable, and the balance approach makes a lot of sense—everything in moderation, even 2K rage quits!
ReplyDeleteHi Richard! I love your take on this random post. I honestly am also a caffeine addict but more so because I love trying new flavors and variations of the coffees and teas. I love coffee so no matter the amount of hate it gets, I will be drinking it (even if I'm an "addict").
ReplyDeleteHey Richard. I love how random and useful this post of yours is. I can much relate on the caffeine addiction and I too think its a rather motivative and refreshing addiction to have.
